About the Name: 3 Million Revolutions
The name has caused some discussion and debate and probably for good reason. At one point, I was up to 10 million revolutions for the trip.
Here is the logic and calculations that ultimately led to the theme: |
The wheel circumference = diameter x ∏ or
The wheel circumference = 27 inches x ∏ = 84.8 inches
The circumference also equals one revolution
Some other revelant conversion factors are:
1 mile = 5280 feet and
1 foot = 12 inches
Therefore, 1 mile = 5280 feet x 12 inches/foot = 63,360 inches
1 mile in terms of revolutions is
63,360 inches/mile ÷ 84.8 inches/revolution = 747 revolutions
For the entire trip, then,
4145 miles x 747 revolutions/mile = 3,096,315 revolutions
I took a little liberty since 3 Million Revolutions was catchier than 3,096,315 Revolutions.
